The mountain at Norikura looks more red-and-gold than white. Any white on the summits is more mood-setting than skiable base. The storm track is waking up slowly, not delivering powder days yet.

Forecast tips for Norikura

Start with overnight snowfall and wind direction. Here, a cold storm crossing the Hakuba ridgeline is the pattern to watch, so the useful question is how cold and calm the next window stays. With a 850 to 1598 metre elevation band and 748 metres of vertical, the trees and upper storm laps hold soft snow well after the open faces are worked. A seasonal baseline around 11 metres means moderate-looking totals can still refresh the main lines quickly. The swing variable is wind: light flow lets the trees refill, while a hard blast strips the exposed entrances. If you are looking beyond the ropes, only chase that angle when the forecast also shows settled wind and stable visibility. Chase it when 10 to 20 cm lands overnight with light to moderate wind; if gusts climb, make it a sheltered-tree day.
