The forecast for Nozawa Onsen is very simple: summer wins. Alpine plants, humid afternoons and summer clouds are the main weather features. The only powder to chase is probably shaved ice. Plenty of time to plan the winter trip.

Read the freezing level before anything else here. With more than a kilometre of vertical between village and summit, the live forecast can show one temperature for the resort while the actual conditions split in two: cold dry sea-effect snow up top, slushy refrozen ruts on the lower runs. That makes this one of the few places where a marginal-looking storm can still be a great day, as long as you stay above the mid-station gondola. If the forecast shows zero or below at the base for the whole cycle, that is a full top-to-bottom day worth booking around.
